What to Expect at Your Newborn Photo Session
Bringing your sweet little baby into the world is emotional, magical… and let’s be real, a little exhausting! When you book a newborn photo session, you want it to feel relaxed, safe, and special. Whether you're a first-time parent or already juggling siblings at home, this guide will help you know exactly what to expect when you arrive for your newborn photography session.
📅 When Should You Book Your Newborn Session?
The best time to book your session is before your baby is born — usually around your second or early third trimester. Once baby arrives, we’ll finalize the session date. I always recommend photographing newborns within the first 5–14 days of life. That’s when they’re still super sleepy, curled up, and oh-so-adorable in those classic poses.
But if your baby is a little older, don’t worry — we can still create beautiful memories together! and I can capture newborn up to 30 days
🧸 What Happens During the Session?
When you arrive at my cozy, baby-safe studio here in Lakeville New Brunswick 7 min from Costco , you can expect a warm, welcoming space filled with soft lighting, calming music, and everything baby might need — from blankets and swaddles to diapers and wipes.
Sessions typically last 2 to 3 hours for baby only & 3 to 4 hours with siblings and family so we have plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and capturing all the precious little details. I go at baby’s pace — no stress, no rush.
👶 What Should Baby Wear?
Truth is… babies look best in nothing at all! Most of the session will feature soft wraps, cozy textures, and timeless styling that let your baby's tiny features take center stage.
And the best part? You don’t need to bring a thing — I take care of everything from headbands to swaddles, all carefully chosen and cleaned between sessions. My studio is fully stocked with everything we need for a smooth, beautiful shoot.
That said, if you have a special outfit or sentimental item (like grandma’s quilt, a handmade bonnet, or a rainbow baby token), please bring it along! I’d love to include those meaningful touches in your baby’s story.
💗 Can Parents & Siblings Join?
Yes, please! I always encourage family shots — especially those first-time snuggles between baby and big brother or sister. These moments are raw and unforgettable. Neutral, soft-toned outfits work best and photograph beautifully.
📷 Safety Is Always First
As a trained newborn photographer, your baby’s safety is my number one priority. I’m fully vaccinated , first aide and CPR certified, experienced with newborn posing, and use safe, supportive techniques during every session.
I’ll never place your baby in a position that isn't natural or safe, and I always watch for cues that baby needs a break, a feed, or a snuggle.

Once your session is complete, I’ll carefully edit the best images and send you a proofing gallery to choose your favorites. From there, you’ll select what you’d love to have printed, framed, or added to your keepsake photo book.
